Cursive O: How to Write Uppercase & Lowercase O
Cursive o is a closed oval that links to the next letter across the top rather than from the baseline. That high connection is what makes it a little different from a or c.

Capital O in cursive: step by step
- 1Start near the top line at the right and curve counterclockwise in a big oval.
- 2Come around the bottom and back up the right side.
- 3Close the oval at the top with a small inner loop. Lift before the next letter.
Lowercase o in cursive: step by step
- 1Start just below the midline, near the top of the letter.
- 2Curve counterclockwise to the left, down around the bottom and back up, closing the oval at the top.
- 3Without lifting, continue to the right in a small horizontal stroke at the midline.

How cursive o joins other letters
The o's join is a horizontal stroke at the midline, which makes it a good lead-in for v, w and r that also start high. Letters that start at the baseline need a short dip.

Common mistakes with cursive o
Linking from the bottom
The o connects across the top. If you take the exit stroke from the baseline, the next letter starts too low.
An oval that does not close
A gap at the top turns the o into a c. Let the pen touch its starting point.
