How to use the practice generator

  1. Enter a name, a word or a short phrase. Up to 40 letters, digits and basic punctuation are drawn.
  2. Choose a style. Model + trace gives one solid copy followed by dotted ones; Trace only gives all dotted copies; Copy only gives solid copies to write beside.
  3. Pick the letter case. Names usually read best capitalized; use lowercase to practice joins without capitals.
  4. Press Print, or Download PDF to save it. The preview shows exactly what will print.

Ideas for using it

  • Practice a child's own name first. It is the word they will write most.
  • Make a sheet from a spelling list: one word per sheet in large size, or a short phrase in small size.
  • Use Capitalized and lowercase on the same name to compare how the first letter differs.
  • Work out how a letter is built on its lesson page, such as cursive a or cursive e, before tracing it in a word.
