Cursive C: How to Write Uppercase & Lowercase C

Cursive c is a single open curve, the simplest letter in the alphabet, and it is the building block for e, a, d and o. The capital C is the same curve, just taller.

Numbered dots mark where each stroke begins. The red line is the baseline; the dashed line is the midline. Style: traditional American school cursive, simplified to a single line.

How cursive c joins other letters

The c exits low, so it links smoothly to letters that start at the baseline, and it needs a small lift in the stroke before letters like a and o that begin higher.

Common mistakes with cursive c

A closed curve

If the curve closes at the top, the c turns into a small o. Leave a clear gap on the right.

A flat bottom

Keep the bottom of the c round. A flat base makes the exit stroke jerky and breaks the flow into the next letter.

Cursive c vs e: A small c and e differ only by the loop. If your e keeps turning into a c, add the small loop at the midline before you curve down. See cursive E →
